We all love going to spas and your face has probably never felt more pampered and cleaner than it does after a spa facial. Many of us have never been to a spa, and let’s face it… a facial at a spa, is an expensive, special-occasion treat. Here’s a facial routine you can do at home that will give you that spa-clean feeling and fresh glow.
Step 1 – Remove all makeup with an emollient makeup remover wipe that dissolves makeup before starting. Pay special attention to the areas around your eyes and nose where these substances can get trapped. Take mascara off gently by closing your eyes and wiping the cleansing cloth downward from the eyebrow to your cheek, being careful not to pull the delicate skin around the eyes.
Step 2 – Once make-up is completely removed, splash your face with warm water. Use a gentle, oil-free cleanser that is formulated for your skin type: oily, combination or dry. For dry and sensitive skin types use a cream based formula. Use your fingertips to apply a small amount of a mild cleanser to your face and neck or use a rotating facial brush. Massage the cleanser in a circular motion paying special attention to the creases of the nose and chin.
Step 3 – To remove the cleanser from your face and neck, use a clean lukewarm washcloth in gentle circular motions. Splash warm water on your face and neck to make sure all the cleanser is gone. Here’s an added spa tip, soak the washcloth in warm water then ring out the excess water and rest the towel on your face until it cools. Step 4 – On damp skin, gently apply a mild face scrub to remove dead skin cells from your face. Exfoliating deeply cleanses, smooth’s and refines the skin’s texture and helps to even skin tone to give your face a soft glow. You should only exfoliate once or twice a week at most. Always use light, upward, circular motions to avoid irritating the skin. Rinse off the scrub with warm water and then gently pat your face dry with a towel. Avoid scrubs if you have really sensitive skin. You can also use a face mask once a week. After your face is clean, apply an oil-free moisturizer specific to your skin type every night.
