Go Green Tea Scrub

Packed with antioxidants, green tea makes a wonderful natural facial scrub and toner. The high levels of flavonoids protect skin from free radicals, repair tired skin, reduce the appearance of acne and blemishes, and diminish signs of aging and UV damage.
The other ingredient in this powerful green tea scrub is sugar. Refined sugar contains glycolic acid, a natural alpha hydroxy acid. It is great for exfoliating dead skin cells as well as stimulating blood flow and cell renewal for younger, fresher-looking skin. Not to mention it cleans pores and breaks up scar tissue. Sugar also contains glycerin, which has softening effects on the skin and generally brightens the complexion.

1 tsp loose-leaf green tea or 1 green tea bag
1/3 cup boiling water
1–2 Tsp sugar (if your skin is sensitive use 1 Tsp)
1 tsp honey, lemon juice, or yogurt (optional)

Place green tea in a mug. Pour in boiling water. Brew for a few minutes to let the water absorb the tea, remove tea bag or strain tea leaves, then cool to lukewarm. Place 1 Tbsp sugar in a bowl. Add 1 Tbsp lukewarm green tea to the bowl. Make sure the tea is lukewarm and not hot: you don’t want to melt the sugar. Stir, and add another 1 Tbsp sugar. Stir again. It should look like wet sand. Add honey to moisturize, lemon juice to cleanse, or yogurt to soothe.

Now wash your face. Using a cotton pad and spread the green tea scrub on your face until covered, making sure to avoid your eyes. Massage into skin with a gentle, circular motion, first with the cotton pad, then with your fingertips. Continue exfoliating and massaging for 1 to 2 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. Pour remaining green tea from the mug onto a cotton pad and rub gently on your face as a toner to firm and detoxify your skin. Finish off with a little of your favorite moisturizer, and voila! Your skin will look fresh and new. Any leftover scrub will last up to a week in the fridge.
