Please excuse the tears in this video! When I spoke about the beauty of India I couldn't help but cry. My experiences lead me to open a fair trade shop on my site so that we can combat poverty by helping artisans. Everything is handmade with love. As a model back in the 80's and 90's everything was about how people were supposed to look and what was the trend du jour.
I decided to travel to Calcutta, India with my friend Colleen Saidman Yee (now a big yogini) to volunteer with Mother Teresa to see what real poverty was like, and to serve others in need. I needed a break from the world I was in. What happened changed my life forever. The video is to empower you to see beauty and giving in a different light. Working in the slums of Calcutta, Mother Teresa showed me that beauty is so much more than the physical. (see video)
We are often judged by our appearance, leading us to the fear of aging and what that means to our self worth since we are taught that so much of it is based on our beauty and youth which can affect our sense of self-love. Thankfully that attitude is changing. There is no expiration date on beauty. We are living longer and healthier lives than ever before. Let's embrace our beauty at all stages of our life and have gratitude that we are so much more than meets the eye. I started an online, Fair Trade store that works with poor communities around the world. Everything is handcrafted from recycled materials. Please see my home page :)
I had the great honor of making this video with the PMD beauty device that honors and sees the beauty of all women. I truly thank them for letting me tell my truth. Volunteering in India changed my life forever. First, it showed me that beauty is not physical but rather how we live our life and contribute to the benefit of others. We are one. Also, my friend Colleen almost died in my arms in Calcutta from malaria. I learned that life is so precious, to stay in the present and enjoy each moment. I am also proud of my new agency ICONIC FOCUS that also believes there is no expiration date on beauty. Patty Sicular, Jill Perlman and Lori Mondago are true visionaries. Enjoy some of my photo's from India and working with Mother Theresa. If you get a chance please watch a movie called The Letters. Follow me on Instagram.
Namaste, Dawn Xo
